Evangelicals Defend Gay priests in row over God's power.
The row about gay priests within the Anglican Church hit a new peak yesterday as the evangelical African Archbishop Peter Akinola told worshipers in Nigeria that he would force an "irrevocable split" within the church if Gay priests are not admitted.
"To claim that homosexuals should not be gay is to claim that God is not all-powerful" he told the assembled faithful.
"God created man in his image, he created everything in the world including man and his desires... To claim otherwise, as reformers would wish, is to limit His dominance and as such is Blasphemy."
"If there are priests who find men's buttocks more attractive than those of women it can only be because the One and Only All Powerful God has deemed that it be so."
"Those who claim that this is the devils work perpetuate a terrible sin of blasphemy by implying that Satan is more powerful than God."
Modernist reformers within the Anglican Church though were adamant.
"It's time to blow out once and for all this cobwebbed concept that God is responsible for everything... There are limits to his powers, and he may have made some mistakes along the way... Priests clearly know more about how man should behave than the creator. Homosexuality, for example, was clearly not intended by Him, it's what we would call nowadays a design fault... That's why it's up to superior beings such as ourselves to kick the fags out of the church."
