France's New President To Fight Global Warming and Push For 135-Hour Work Week
By Alan Lord
Paris - Flush with his victory, new French President Nicolas Sarkozy - or 'Sarko' as he's 'fondly' called by fellow Frenchmen, assured US President Bush that henceforth France would be a friend to the US. He went on however, to urge Bush to be a leader in the fight against global warming.
In a show of newfound solidarity, President Bush immediately shipped a dozen fire trucks to Paris to help put out the fires from cars being torched by crowds of leftwing yobs unhappy with the election results.
"Far from adding to global warming," stressed Sarko, "these torched cars will reduce France's dependency on foreign oil. They clearly aren't going anywhere."
Sarkozy also plans to waste no time pushing through a weighty package of pro-market, anti-crime reforms. He wants to free up labor markets, calling France's 35-hour work week 'absurd,' and adding, "135 hours would be more like it."
Sarkozy, a pro-American conservative and an immigrant's son, declared that, "the easy days of indolent Frenchmen sitting at café tables in the hot lazy sun and leisurely peeling a melting Camembert whilst supping wine are over."
