NHS to standardise body parts and corrective surgery
Following the recent scandal where a black woman in England was offered a white prosthetic foot, the NHS, the UK's free national medical service has justified it's actions in the name of "cutting costs".
A spokeswoman for the Royal Berkshire and Battle Hospitals NHS trust told BIGfib that the standardisation on white feet was "only the start" of the NHS cost cutting program.
"Under pressure from the central audit office we've been looking at many ways of cutting costs within the NHS.
Our buying department has calculated that we can economise up to 2 million pounds a year and slash waiting lists by standardizing not only prosthetic body parts but also reconstructive surgery."
From January 2004 all NHS patients will be receiving statistically standardised replacement limbs, wigs and reconstructive surgery.
Our statistical analysis shows that the average patient in the UK is female, white, 1m70 in height and has size 7 feet. The spokeswoman told BIGfib.
"Of course some people will complain, particularly tall black males who need reconstructive surgery in the chest region or around their privates
"
"But we're not the first to use standardised body parts in reconstructive surgery... The Americans have been doing it for years and the results have been judged very positive in some cases. Look at Michael Jackson."
