With Sharon Ill, Many Celebrate Death Of Peace Process By Lee Camp
TEL AVIV Ariel Sharon, Prime Minister of Israel, suffered a severe stroke and brain haemorrhaging Tuesday. This caused widespread jubilation among many Israelis and Palestinians who are now anticipating an end to the unsettling months of impending peace.
Before falling ill Sharon was gearing up politically to allow for a Palestinian state which would include the disputed West Bank and Gaza. But now that Sharon is incapacitated, the rythmic sound of bombs and gunfire will likely again return to the Holy Land.
Many Israelis and Palestinians are in fact relieved that the threat of peace has been subdued. One Israeli man said, "As things are now I walk around with a gun and live in a state of constant nervous fear. If peace broke out, I don't know what I'd do with myself. I'd be bored out of my mind."
A Palestinian shop owner told BIGfib, "Currently we're oppressed underdogs kept down by tyrants. If we agreed to peace, people would forget about us. In Palestine we have a proverb - Better the devil-you-know than the trailer-trash-no-one-ever-thinks-about."
