Nothing To Do With Race- Rice
By Lolo Laroche
Condoleeza Rice yesterday denied that the administration's slow response to Hurricane Katrina had anything to do with race.
The Federal government has been heavily criticised for the slow response, and many have claimed that had it been white people drowning in their homes the government would have acted quicker.
Rice, who, as the hurricane hit was watching Broadway smash hit, Spamalot, denied any link.
"It's true that some elements of the initial response could have been quicker," she told CNBC, "but to say that that has something to do with race is just plain false."
"Personally, I put it down an incompetent administration and a general lack of concern about those people down there who really have nothing to do with middle America at all..." she admitted frankly.
"You know, when 9-11 happened, nearly everyone in America knew someone in New-York, a friend, a relative, a boss... But the truth is that none of us in middle America know any of the kind of people left behind down there in New Orleans. So I guess what I'm saying , is that it's kind of like watching some foreign Tsunami. It's just not personal so no one really cared."
"But it's nothing to do with race."
