Research Shows Happiness Is All About Feeling Alive
By Alan Lord & Lolo Laroche
Washington: A recent study suggests that feelings of happiness relate directly to how alive people feel.
The research, carried out by sociological researcher Harry Gundbaum, University of Maryland, focuses on exactly why feelings of being alive affect happiness levels; whether it comes from the empowerment generated by the ability to transform ones environment, for example by spending money and acquiring material goods, or whether it is caused by feelings of superiority to others who do not feel so alive.
Gundbaum told BIGfib, A feeling of aliveness is intrinsically linked to happiness. One can prove the point by taking the example of a guy who has just bought, say a Sony Home Entertainment Theatre System or a Porsche Carrera. He will feel real good about himself, particularly as he passes next to the cemetery.
Now guy number two, who is lying dead underground is clearly not gonna be feeling as good.
Our groundbreaking research shows that the difference clearly comes from how alive each of these people feel relative to the other.
