Armstrong Declares Seventh Tour Win -
'Tougher Than Beating Cancer'
By Lee Camp
PARIS After winning his seventh straight Tour De France, Lance Armstrong declared that this win was "tougher than beating cancer."
This is a change from his six previous wins, after which he always announced his mantra that "nothing could compare to the challenge of beating cancer." But apparently this last Tour did.
In an interview with a French newspaper, Lance said, "I don't know. I was in the mountain stages and my legs were burning and I was out of breath and exhausted and miserable and I thought, 'You know, I'd rather have cancer right now. At least I got to watch TV during that.'"
Lance further stated that he's glad he made this his last Tour De France because when it gets harder than cancer, it's not fun anymore. He pledged to continue riding in cancer awareness events even though the illness is no longer at the top of his list of life challenges. In an inspirational speech to cancer patients and cancer survivors two
days after his tour win, Lance said, "You can beat this illness! I mean, if you think this is tough, try winning your seventh Tour De France at 33 years of age! Don't act like you have it hard!"
