After Failed G8, Africa Builds Giant Coffee Cup, Begs For Change
By Lee Camp

Although the eight world leaders involved in the G8 Conference in Scotland did agree to double aid to Africa and cancel the debt of several African countries, they failed to agree on setting a percentage of each country's economy to devote to aid.
Setting such a percentage was one of the top goals of Prime Minister Blair who led
the conference.
However, Africa is not ready to put up the "For Sale" sign just yet.
Wednesday marked the completion of a three-thousand-mile-wide coffee cup built by the governments of nearly every African nation, which the people of the continent hope to use to collect spare change from wealthier nations. The group of African nations did disagree about what message to write across the giant mug but eventually settled on the sentence "Need money for food… just kidding, beer." After twenty-four hours, the enormous beggar's cup had collected three dollars, eighteen cents, a Tootsie pop, and a
flute.
Africa plans to use the three dollars to buy sandals for seven-year-old Rajkumar Nashir of Tanzania.
