 From Nice Mayor To Rock Singer, Strange but True… The Tramway To Hell

Rocked by a financial scandal, Jacques Peyrat, the ex Front Nationale maire of Nice (south of France), is said to be considering new career options.
The local political establishment has been rocked a number of times in recent months by politico-financial scandals involving back-handers paid in exchange for valuable construction contracts.
The most recent scandal involves a huge contract for the construction of a Tramway within the town for a total 14,3 million Euros. In exchange for a 180,000 euro backhander, the contract was handed to the huge Thales group, and this despite their offer being the most expensive by more than 20%.
Already three local politicians have been arrested because of the sc andal, but so far, the Marie of Nice, the Teflon coated Jacques Peyrat has managed to distance himself from the scandal, claiming that he knew nothing of the illegal goings on within the whole of his team, nor anything of the negotiations around the largest construction contract the region has ever seen.
It would appear however, to be only a matter of time before the scandal catches up with M. Peyrat forcing him to resign.
The town has been paralyzed by the dusty road works caused by the construction of the tramway for nearly two years now, and for many businesses in the Nice area - now on the verge of bankruptcy because of the project - this is one affair and one delay too many.
The news that Jacques Peyrat is about to release a single Tramway To Hell (a cover of the ACDC Highway to Hell song) with his recently formed rock band, Screw You, is no doubt a sign that he is preparing his future carrier.
