Foreigners welcome, French, sod off say new tax laws.
The French prime minister Jean Pierre Raffarin today announced new tax laws that he claims will encourage foreign investment in France.
The new laws will offer a rebate of 35% on standard income tax rates to foreign professionals living and working in France.
The law, which is a de-facto acceptance of the fact that France's high income tax levels prevent high earners from wanting to be resident in the country however makes no such provision for French nationals.
The move is seen as a peace offering toward the US following recent disagreement over the Iraq war.
"The new tax law not only reduces income tax levels to similar levels that US citizens would pay at home, "
Raffarin told BIGfib, "But we're also moving closer to current US culture in terms of attitudes towards the French." "The message we're giving out here in France is now the same as the message people in the States have been trying to put across for some time. "If you're French sod off. Everyone else is welcome."
