Lifestyle not genes says new diet book.
A new revolutionary diet is sweeping Europe as people desperately try to lose weight for the summer holidays.
The diet exposed for the first time in Doctor Blabber's book "Eat Less Lose Weight" is a completely new approach to weight loss and has so far sold over a million copies.
So what is so new about "Eat Less Lose Weight?
"Up till now," explains Dr Blabber, "All weight loss techniques have been based around what you eat, what you're actually putting on your plate. We've had diets based on the colour of the food you associate, diets which associate certain foods but which avoid other combinations, diets which restrict you to protein or carbohydrate, but in the end all of these are bound to fail... The truth of dieting is that most people aren't fat because of what they eat but because of how much they're eating. The detailed statistical analysis that we show in the book clearly demonstrated that the less people eat the more weight they lose, and this irrespective of their genes, or what they eat... People who undertake hunger strikes, for example invariably lose weight. Also people who don't have enough to eat in third world countries for example, are often enviably thinner than their north American counterparts."
It seems like a very simple concept. We asked Blabber if that is really all there is to his diet.
"No, there are a number of concepts to the book. Another one for example is that people who move more tend to be thinner... Runners, athletes, postman... We've done some very state-of-the-art analysis, and it shows that people who eat a lot and do nothing have a tendency to get much fatter than people who eat less and do a lot... It's simple, but for anyone who's been trying to lose weight by watching TV and eating vast quantities of pizza, and not succeeding it's quite a revolution. They don't need to blame their genes anymore."
