Cyber church attracts wrong kind of visitor
Britain's first cyber church has been forced to tighten security after abusive visitors shouted and swore at other visitors.
The Church of Fools said Wednesday, it has withdrawn the "shout" button, which allows visitors to address everyone who is present, and added more overseers, who can log out people who use abusive language. The pulpit, lectern and altar have also been closed to visitors.
The church said the first few days of the site which launched last week, had been riotous; in one case, Satan, entered the pulpit and started to blaspheme.
The church, complete with a stained glass window, gothic arches, pews, and a crypt, is run by a campaigning online Christian magazine.
Church spokesman Stephen Godd told BIGfib that though Church of Fools had been completely up-front about who it wanted to attract, the visitors so far had not fitted the intended profile.
We were clearly hoping for people foolish enough to swallow whatever religious doctrine we intended to throw at them, he said.
We werent expecting people to come in and start shouting difficult questions at us. Otherwise we would have called it Church of Intelligent People or something.
Stephen Godd went on to say that version two of the website would contain an obligatory IQ test and only permit entry to those stupid enough to sit quietly and listen to the medieval rantings contained in the Bible. The Church of Fools will be handed back to a true believing sheep-like flock, he said.
