Claire Short “furious” at Blair. When Claire Short spectacularly failed to resign last month her status irrevocably changed in the eyes of the public. Previously a darling of the peace movement for her outspoken criticism of the War in Iraq she instantly became a symbol of political manoeuvring and lack of backbone in today’s Labour party.
Her anger built during the war, eventually erupting in a shocking resignation letter. “Tony Blair’s dictatorial brainwashing is a complete scandal.” Short lambasted. “His reckless ability to convince me not to resign and his disgraceful acceptance afterwards of my resignation has resulted in a complete public relations shambles and inestimable damage to my image.” Continuing her attack with Patriot-missile precision she added “I now see no future for myself within or failing that without the current Labour party which without honest politicians is a soulless and completely failed organization.”
Tony Blair was reported to be “shocked and stunned” by Ms Short’s resignation. Speaking on the steps of number ten in front of the traditional nipple-hatted ”bobby”, he added “When politicians start to resign over their failure to act correctly over issues as insignificant as the current skirmishes in the Middle East I think we can all agree that it’s a sad day for politics.”
Short said she was now “so furious” about her loss of face that she would be using “every available media channel” to insult the prime minister.
