FRANCE: National scandal as woman cleans up after dog.
In a European first, a woman in Nice, France, cleaned up the excrement left by her dog on the pavement.
Stunned residents of Rue Pairolière watched from windows as Josette Rabot scooped up the processed remains of her dog’s dinner.
News quickly spr ead, and within hours the event was on local and national news.
Interviewed on France’s TF1 TV station Josette explained “I don’t really know why I did it... it was quite a big one and quite runny, and it was right in the middle of the pavement... there were some children playing nearby, I am a nurse so I’m aware that dog excrement can contain the worm toxocara canis which can make children go blind... and I had a plastic bag in my hand... I just sort of did it without thinking...”
Local residents variously described the act as “disgusting” and “revolting”...
“Imagine if everyone went around scooping up dog turds” said Renée Dupont of Nice’s pedigree dog club. “It would be a sick-inducing spectacle... People would start associating dog owners with Scatologists or whatever they call people who like that dirty stuff...”
Finally TF1 asked Josette to repeat the act for the cameras. “I’m sorry I can’t...” She laughed. “It’s a one off thing... I doubt you’ll ever see that again in France!”
