Bush says Iraq “is not Vietnam”

As the war in Iraq becomes an increasingly troublesome issue in President Bush’ election campaign the president yesterday firmly rejected any comparisons between Iraq and Vietnam.

“People keep saying that Iraq is a new Vietnam” George W. Bush told yesterdays “Meet the press”. “Well I can tell you it’s not.”
“Iraq is really dry and dusty, desert that’s the word, while Vietnam is really thick trees and plants and stuff, jungle they call it, or at least it was before we bombed it with Agent Orange, did that ever grow back ?”
“Anyways, Iraq is in the Middle East and Vietnam is, you know, somewhere completely different. The people of Iraq are Arabs and the people in Vietnam were, you know kind of Chinesey. Anyone trying to compare Iraq with Nam is just playing politics.”
