Bayer says Govt unreasonable to make them pay for non-existent GM risks.

Bayer, one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of GM seeds criticized the government’s GM policy as anti-competitive.
Following on the announcement by the UK environment minister of a guarded authorization for GM maize in the UK, Bayer claimed that the government ruling that GM manufacturers would be held financially responsible for any environmental damage caused was “Profoundly Unfair.”
“There are no dangers from GM crops.” Dr F. Rankinstein told BIGfib. “There is no danger of pollution, no danger to health, and no danger of cross pollination.”
“No-one is going to take the risk of finding out there are dangers in the future and having to pay for clean up.” He told BIGfib. “And seeing as we’re 100% certain that there is no danger it’s totally unfair of the government to ask us to do so.”
He claims that if government policy continues to be “unhelpful” that Bayer may pull out of the UK altogether.
“We’ll probably just follow Monsanto’s lead and concentrate on countries like Africa and the US where anything goes.” he said
