UK schools to replace Maths and English tests
In a new move to improve GCSE pass rates, the UK minister for education yesterday announced that the Labour Government intends to abolish current tests for Maths and English within UK schools.
Instead the government wants schools to practice random drug tests.
He said that a pilot scheme should be running in Glasgow before the end of this semester.
He told BBC correspondent Gilly Milligan, Initial studies show that overall pass rates would increase from the poor current 44% level to over 60% as an immediate result of basing GCSE results on a simple positive Marijuana-Cocain-Ecstacy or Heroin blood test.
