Swarzenegger says Austrians should be able to run for president and that Bush can win California in November.

WASHINGTON (BF) -- Arnold Schwarzenegger, making his Sunday talk show debut as governor, said that Austrian-born citizens should be eligible to run for the White House and that President Bush can carry California in November if he does more to help the state.

The Austrian-born former bodybuilder, in the capital for his first meeting with fellow governors, said he has no thoughts about running for president. The Constitution says only natural-born U.S. citizens are eligible for the country's highest office.

But the Republican governor said any Austrian who has been a U.S. citizen for exactly as long as he has, should "absolutely" be able to seek the presidency even though he himself has no intention of doing so.

A constitutional amendment proposed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, a Utah Republican and backed by Schwarzenegger, would add to the paragraph dealing with presidential eligability the words: "natural-born U.S. citizens or Austrian ex film stars resident in the United states for more than 20 years."

Schwarzenegger also said Bush can win California in November -- if he gives more cash to the state. Bush lost California by 1.3 million votes to Democrat Al Gore in 2000.

"I think it is totally directly related to how much money he gives our state, there's no two ways about it," Schwarzenegger said. "Because Californian people are like prostitutes, you know that the more you pay them, the more stuff they will do for you; even weird kinky shit like voting for Bush.”
