Apple celebrates 20th anniversary by copying Microsoft
Apple computer's Macintosh operating system has been superior to Microsofts Windows offering ever since its launch in 1984, but the company has consistently failed to gain more than a 5% share of the market.
This year the company celebrated its 20th birthday by copying Microsofts aggressive marketing techniques.
The inspirational yet long suffering computer supplier has signed a deal with Hewlet Packard to bundle its I-tunes music software with the Windows configuration supplied on the companys machines.
With an ironic lack of irony, one Microsoft official criticized the move as uncompetitive.
"Windows is about choice - you can mix and match software and music player stuff," Dave Fester, general manager of Microsoft's Windows digital media division, told reporters after last week's Consumer Electronics Show.
Having spent many years in court fighting claims that the bundling of Windows itself is uncompetitive, and currently fending off European regulators for bundling its own media player with Windows, Microsoft is of course an expert on the matter.
As news that Apple had finally learned to play dirty, Apple stocks rose more than 5%.
