Americans warned against travelling to “Outside World”

WASHINGTON (BFB) -- The State Department Wednesday urged Americans to defer travel to the region known as the World.
"The U.S. government continues to receive indications of terrorist threats aimed at American and Western interests, including the targeting of transportation and civil aviation," the travel warning says.

"American citizens in the World should remain vigilant, particularly in public places associated with the Western community."
It said Americans who "travel to, or remain in, the “World” despite this travel warning" should register with the consular section of the local U.S embassy.

US foreign policy has offended many parts of the “World” over the last year, including France, Germany, Russia, China, Iraq, Iran, Palestine, Belgium, Italy, India, Pakistan, Cuba, Canada and Uzbekistan.
A senior State Department official suggested the latest threats could be al Qaeda-related, saying, "In the absence of any intelligence whatsoever about anything one has to assume they are still planning something and we want everyone to be as scared as possible."
This official said the decision to allow personnel to depart on a voluntary basis was not driven by a "specific or credible" threat against U.S. personnel, but by a more general threat about something “quite nasty.”
