Daft Calls for Effort on Obesity

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Beverage companies need to work together to find a solution for obesity problems, Coca-Cola Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Douglas Daft said on Monday.
"A simplistic government solution will not address the issue," said Daft, who spoke at an industry conference in New York.
“Companies such as ours cannot be held responsible for peoples dreadful eating habits.”
Daft told visitors to the conference.
Coca-cola is the world's largest maker of sugary soft drinks.
Daft said beverage companies must provide choices for consumers that support a healthy and active lifestyle, but he said that parents, teachers and schools must help children make sensible choices.

“Parents need to undo the damage done by our billion dollar advertising campaigns and explain to their children just how dangerous the worthless tooth-rotting-diabetes-inducing crap that we sell is… What is needed is a consumer revolution. People need to stop buying the unhealthy sugar-stuffed chemical waste we sell, period. If they don’t, hell, they deserve to die toothless !”.
