Many will still shop on Buy Nothing Day

With the 28th of November designated worldwide “Buy Nothing Day” BIGfib sent Lolo Laroche to New York’s 5th avenue to ask shoppers if they intended to participate.

While most shoppers were still unaware of the campaign, Teresa Shnaps was typical of those who did know about it. And she says she intends to shop till she drops.
Proponents of Buy Nothing Day argue that over-consumption is destroying the planet and that the thousands of advertising messages the average American sees every week are destroying their confidence and emotional wellbeing, but shoppers like Teresa don’t agree.

"I don't get that at all." Teresa told us. "I mean none of us are comfortable with how we look, and you know, adverts showing us how we should look and telling us how to look better are showing the way to better well being as far as I can see... All we have to do is buy the product and we know we’ll look better and feel better."
"From what I hear the shops are going to be empty because of Buy Nothing Day." Teresa Continued."That sounds to me like shoppers paradise. I’m gonna make it Buy Everything Day.”
