Speaking to a number of MPs in the British houses of parliament, Gordon Brown, Britains chancellor made an impassioned plea that the time may or may not soon be right for rapid entry into the Euro.
Though previously Brown posponed Britains entry, naming the Euro zones poor economic performance, Brown now says the 5 conditions could possibly be met.
The five tests are the only scientific way to judge if Britain would be better off in the Euro zone. Brown argued. Now that unemployment is rocketting, inflation has gone through the roof and exports are dropping throughout the entire euro zone, it may possibly be becoming a much more attractive proposition for Britain to enter.
The battle rages on in the UK where almost every conversation hangs on the new currency and where battle lines are heavily drawn. The Conservative opposition party is fundamentally opposed to the new currency though many of its most important figures are in favour. The Labour party on the other hand is in for the most part in favour of the new currency under certain circumstances which Gordon Brown will define and explain to the country as soon as Tony Blair the British PM has taken a final decision whether Britain will enter the new currency or not.
